How to Choose a General Practitioner for International Students in Lazio

If you are an international student and wish to select a General Practitioner (GP) in the Lazio Region, follow this simple guide.

1. Who Can Choose a GP?

✔ Students from the European Union (EU)
✔ Students from non-EU countries with a valid residence permit

2. EU Students

🔹 If your stay is less than 3 months:

  • You can access medical care using the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC – TEAM card) from your home country.
  • Alternatively, you may have private health insurance or pay for medical visits out of pocket.

🔹 If your stay is longer than 3 months:

  • You can register with the National Health Service (SSN) to obtain a GP.
  • Registration is valid until 31 December each year and must be renewed.
  • You can register at the relevant ASL office based on your residence or domicile.

3. Non-EU Students

🔹 If your residence permit is valid for at least 1 year:

  • You are entitled to register with the SSN for free and choose a GP.

🔹 If your residence permit is valid for less than 1 year:

  • You can voluntarily register with the SSN by paying a fee using the F24 form.
  • After registering, you can choose a GP.

4. How to Choose a GP?

📌 Simple Steps:
1️⃣ Find your relevant ASL office based on your residence.
2️⃣ Bring the required documents to the ASL counter:
✔ Identification document
✔ Italian tax code or health card
✔ Residence permit (for non-EU students)
✔ Residence certificate or domicile declaration
3️⃣ Select a GP from the list available on the Salute Lazio platform or at the ASL office.

Once registered, you can receive free medical consultations from your chosen GP.
