Choice of doctor for out-of-town students

,

Off-site university students enrolled at universities in the Lazio Region may have access to medical care during their stay even if they are not resident in Lazio. This procedure is particularly useful for off-site students who need a general practitioner during their period of study.

Main features of the temporary choice of doctor

  1. Recipients:
    • The procedure is reserved for university students regularly enrolled at Lazio universities who are temporarily residing for study purposes away from their residence.
  2. Requirements:
    • Students must hold a health insurance card (TEAM) or be registered with the National Health Service (SSN) through another European Union state (in the case of EU students), or have health insurance covering the period of stay.
    • University enrolment and temporary domiciliation in Lazio are also required.
  3. Procedure:
    • Students must temporarily choose a general practitioner at the ASL competent for the territory [external link] in which they reside.
    • The choice can be made online, via the Lazio Region portal [external link], or physically at the ASL counters.
    • After making the choice, it will be possible to refer to a temporary general practitioner who will be available for examinations, certificates, prescriptions and other medical needs during the study period.
  4. Duration of the temporary choice:
    • The temporary choice of general practitioner is valid for one academic year, with the possibility of renewal.
  5. Method of registration:
    • The choice can be made online via the official website of the Lazio Region [external link], in the section dedicated to the Regional Health Service.
    • Students must fill in the temporary doctor’s choice form and follow the instructions for completing registration.
  6. Health care:
    • Once the choice has been made, the student is entitled to all healthcare services provided by the National Health Service, such as medical examinations, tests, prescriptions and other healthcare needs.
